Updated with Boreal announcement

Mt. Rose and Boreal have announced they will open their slopes on Friday, Nov. 11, the first Tahoe resorts to open this season.

A little more snow was expected Wednesday morning before the latest storm moved on. Tire chains were required for Interstate 80 and Highway 50 in the Sierra Nevada and for Mount Rose Highway, between Incline Village and the Reno area. A winter storm warning was in effect until 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Mt. Rose will be open Friday through Sunday, then will close during the week before reopening on a seven-day schedule Saturday, Nov. 19. Boreal plans to remain open during the week.

This weekend’s forecast for Tahoe-area ski resorts calls for highs around freezing, light wind and a chance Saturday of snow showers.

To the south, Dodge Ridge — off Highway 108 near Strawberry — also plans to open Friday, Nov. 11. Because it is Veterans Day, the resort will give free lift tickets to all active military and veterans who provide military ID.

Update: Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood pushed their opening dates to Saturday, Nov. 12, and Palisades to Nov. 18. Sugar Bowl and Soda Springs are planning on Nov. 25, the day after Thanksgiving.

Mammoth Mountain, in California’s Eastern Sierra, opened its first runs last weekend.

Last season, Palisades opened on Oct. 29 after a heavy early-season snow. Five other Tahoe resorts followed suit by the end of Thanksgiving week.
