The January transfer window came and went without Chelsea adding any fresh faces to Thomas Tuchel’s squad. Talk of a late move for Ousmane Dembele ultimately fizzled out, with the Frenchman instead staying at Barcelona rather than arriving at Stamford Bridge.
Tuchel will be left disappointed with how the winter window went, with the club’s hierarchy failing to bring in any players.
The Blues squad has been left short in recent months after a spate of injuries hit, particularly in defence and attack.
That has seen their Premier League title challenge collapse, though Tuchel’s men have reached the Carabao Cup final, the Champions League knockout stages and the fourth round of the FA Cup.
While no new faces were added, Chelsea can still come to pre-contract agreements with players who will see their deals expire in the summer.
Here, Daily Express Sport looks at five players who Chelsea can still sign, despite the window slamming shut for another six months…
JUST IN: Chelsea’s Granovskaia had two reasons for snubbing Dembele transfer
Gazzetta dello Sport report that there remains a stalemate between the Italian international and the Serie A side, with the most likely outcome being a summer exit, which will interest Chelsea.
Matthias Ginter
Tuchel is set to lose several defenders in the summer and Matthias Ginter could be brought in to boost his options in that area.
Ginter has impressed for Borussia Monchengladbach, but is understood to be ready to leave the Bundesliga and play abroad, possibly in the Premier League.
Ousmane Dembele
The player who was Chelsea’s top target on deadline day is still set to leave Barcelona for free this summer.
With the Blues having chased him so hard, it means that they will likely push to come to a pre-contract agreement with the attacker.
That would see the Frenchman link back up with Tuchel, having previously played under him at Borussia Dortmund.
Noussair Mazraoui
Tuchel attempted to boost his options at right-back last summer and could return to that position over the coming months.
Noussair Mazraoui is one of the brightest stars in Europe having impressed for Ajax, but has already stated his desire to leave the Dutch giants when his contract comes to an end in the summer.
