Flash Ford? Trademark hints at faster future F-150 ute

Ford has filed a trademark for F-150 Flash in the USA, which could suggest a higher-performance version of the pickup truck – or its electric Lightning spinoff – is coming.

CarBuzz discovered the trademark filing on the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) website.

Ford is yet to comment on the trademark filing, or what it means for the F-150 line-up.

Earlier this year, Ford Performance revealed a high-performance take on its electric pickup will be built – but only in demonstrator form, hosing down speculation a production-ready vehicle may also be on the cards.

Currently, the most powerful version of the electric F-150 Lightning ute has a dual-motor setup producing 420kW of power and 1050Nm of torque.

Ford offers a more powerful version of its F-150 under the Raptor R name plate, albeit one which trades electric motors for a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 producing 522kW of power and 868Nm of torque.

Ford has recently detailed a 2023 model year update to the F-150 Lightning range which brought a number of small changes including more range, a Ford Pro Special Service Vehicle package, and higher US prices.

According to the brand’s American website customers are able to order XLT, Lariat, and Platinum variants of the Lightning, but build slots for its base model Pro are no longer available for 2023.

Ford earlier this year paused production of the F-150 Lightning after a pickup caught fire at the company’s production facility. Production resumed in March 2023.

The brand is yet to confirm if the F-150 Lightning will join its Australian range. We know the Mustang Mach-E, Puma EV, and e-Transit Connect will join the recently-launched e-Transit in Australia, however.
