Florence Pugh is back to her roots in the chilling period drama The Wonder

Florence Pugh is booked and busy, and as one to watch in Hollywood right now, we are nothing short of excited about her new movie venture, The Wonder.

Just weeks after the Olivia Wilde-directed movie Don’t Worry Darling, in which the 26-year-old actress starred alongside Harry Styles, hit cinemas, Florence is gearing up for the release of her new movie. An adaptation of Emma Donoghue’s novel, The Wonder, sees Florence returning to her period roots after starring in movies such as 2017’s Lady Macbeth, 2018’s Outlaw King and 2019’s Little Women.

It’s clearly a genre that Florence loves, and with The Wonder having been helmed by director Sebastián Lelio and the script written by author Emma in collaboration with screenwriter Alice Birch (who was nominated for an Emmy in 2020 for Normal People, FYI), we’re sure to be in for an enjoyable watch.

So, what exactly can we expect from Florence’s role in The Wonder? For more details on the cast, plot, trailer and release date, GLAMOUR has you covered below.

What is the plot of The Wonder?

The movie is a psychological thriller centred on the story of an English nurse who travels to a small village to investigate the medical anomaly of a young girl who has survived without food for months.

The official plot, via Deadline, reads: “The novel is set in Irish Midlands, 1859 and follows an English nurse, Lib Wright (Florence Pugh) is summoned to a tiny village to observe what some are claiming as a medical anomaly or a miracle – a girl said to have survived without food for months. Tourists have flocked to the cabin of an eleven-year-old, and a journalist has come down to cover the sensation. The Wonder is a tale of two strangers who transform each other’s lives, a psychological thriller, and a story of love pitted against evil.”
