Floyd Mayweather and Julio Cesar Chavez have verbally agreed to fight in an exhibition bout next year.
Mayweather made his ring return against YouTube star Logan Paul earlier this year where he fought over eight-rounds for the first time since defeating Conor McGregor in 2017.
Chavez, who is 59, fought in a ‘goodbye’ exhibition against Hector Camacho Jr in the same month of last year.
But now the pair have verbally agreed to meet in the ring after sitting together during the WBC’s convention in Mexico City.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman told a press conference at the Intercontinental Presidente Hotel: “They turned to each other and said, let’s do an exhibition.
“Chavez and Floyd are here to announce they will be doing an exhibition either in Mexico or in Texas where many Mexicans will be watching.”
Mayweather has family history with Chavez with his uncle Roger having fought the Mexican twice during his prime in the 1980s.
Mayweather Sr came up short on both occasions after being stopped in the second round in the opening meeting, before retiring on the stool during their rematch.
Any contest between the younger Mayweather and Chavez could take place over five rounds and will be officially sanctioned to take place next year.
“If he has interest, tell that guy with pleasure I’ll do an exhibition with him for four rounds,” Chavez told FightHype. “Tell Floyd five rounds and we’re good to go!
Mayweather received a huge pay out from his recent exhibition with Paul having reportedly earned the 44-year-old a whopping $1.5million per punch.

It has also been claimed that he is in talks to take an exhibition against another YouTube star Money Kicks who previously suggested the pair would meet in the ring.
“Next, you never know, may be Floyd,” he said when asked for his future boxing plans on the Lovin Dubai show. “Talks are happening between me and Floyd Mayweather [for a bout] in the region, in Dubai.”
