Floyd Mayweather Jr oversaw Anthony Joshua’s latest training session in Dubai ahead of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk.
The former IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight champion has been putting the work in over the festive period, filmed working with Anthony ‘Chill’ Wilson while out in the United Arab Emirates.
With Joshua set to make changes to his corner following his comprehensive defeat to Usyk in September, the Briton recently completed a whirlwind tour of the US where he linked up with a number of potential new trainers.
Joshua spent time in the gym with undefeated ring legend Mayweather on New Year’s Eve, with the American keeping a watchful eye as the former champion went to work on the aqua bag.
Joshua shared the footage on his Instagram page with the caption: ‘The best to do it and always helping the next generation. Big respect champ @floydmayweather.’
The five-weight world champion was ringside to watch Joshua defend his world titles against IBF mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev last December and later revealed a potential link-up with ‘AJ’ was on the way.
Earlier this month, Mayweather offered to give Joshua some ‘pointers’, also suggesting a break from long-time coach Rob McCracken is needed.
‘I told him from the beginning, I came on the record from the beginning, I told him to come and I could teach him some pointers,’ Mayweather said.
‘A lot of the time, this is just my take, the same coach you had as an amateur doesn’t always make you a great professional.
‘Some guys are great at amateur coaching and some guys are great at professional coaching, and even my dad was the best at professional.
‘At the amateurs, he was teaching me like a professional, so I’m going to always speak real whether people like it or not.
‘I feel like Anthony Joshua, they’re going to different coaches and saying ‘this coach is going to work with him’.
‘But I told him at the beginning when he was undefeated ‘you’ve got some things you need to tweak because if you don’t then you may come up short’.’
