Flying cars have fascinated film-buffs, science geeks and motorsport enthusiasts for many years now. Many have imagined a car that can drive on the roads as well as fly in the sky. It seems that a flying car, as shown in sci-fi films, is set to ply on the roads sooner rather than later. A fully functional flying car has received legal approval to fly in the US. This flying car, known as Model A, has been developed by US-based Alef Aeronautics.
First time flying car okayed in US
The company recently announced that it has received the Special Airworthiness Certification from US government’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This is a historic milestone as it marks the first time a flying car has been certified in the US.
Alef Aeronautics have opened up about their special vehicle via an official statement. “The FAA is actively working on its policies for electrical vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, as well as governing interactions between eVTOLs and ground infrastructure. Alef’s Special Airworthiness Certificate, therefore, limits the locations and purpose for which Alef is permitted to fly,” Alef Aeronautics said in a statement.
What is the cost of the flying car
Based in California’s San Mateo, Alef Aeronautics has developed a flying car, which is 100% electric and costs roughly $300,000 (Rs 2.5 crore)
Known the range of the flying car
Alef has claimed that the vehicle has a flying range of 110 miles and a driving range of 200 miles. The company envisions that its flying car will save the rider’s time during the commutes with its ability to fly over traffic and accidents on roadways.
As per the company’s website, Alef’s flying car will be able to drive on a regular urban road as well as rural roads.
Alef’s Model A will easily fit into a regular driving lane and comply with all traffic regulatory conditions. Besides, owners can park Model A in a regular parking space and inside a regular-sized garage.
What is the speed of the flying car
The Model A won’t go faster than about 25 miles (around 40 kilometres) per hour on a paved surface. Reportedly, Alef Aeronautics is aiming to begin delivering the flying car to customers by the end of 2025.
