There was good reason to fling mortarboards in the air Tuesday.

For the first time since 2019, San Jose State University celebrated recent graduates with the resumption of in-person commencement ceremonies.

This week, the university is hosting 13 graduation events in the Provident Credit Union Event Center on campus — with COVID-19 protocols in effect. About 1,830 students from the class of 2020 and 3,640 from the spring, summer and fall classes of 2021 registered to attend in person and are allowed to bring along with them a limited number of guests.

Spartan alumni, members of the public and graduates not able to be on campus this week may watch the festivities online via the livestream at www.sjsu.edu/commencement/graduates-1.
