Forbes announced its 2022 Travel Guide Star-Award winners on Wednesday, and six Colorado destinations hit the publication’s highest, five-star mark.
In the hotels category, The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, The Little Nell in Aspen and The Madeline in Telluride all received five-star reviews. And two spas, the Spa at The Broadmoor and Remède Spa Aspen at The St. Regis resort, also were awarded five stars.
The Penrose Room at The Broadmoor was the only restaurant to receive five stars in Colorado. It has remained closed throughout the pandemic but will be reopening soon, according to a representative.
In a system meant to “verify luxury,” according to its website, Forbes doles out annual hotel, spa and restaurant ratings by sending “incognito inspectors” to luxury properties around the world.
“While we inspect both service and facility, our Star Rating system emphasizes service because your experience at a hotel, restaurant or spa goes beyond looks — how it makes you feel is what you will remember most,” the website says.
Colorado’s list leans heavily toward destinations at ski resorts. This year’s four-star award winners are Allegria Spa at Park Hyatt Beaver Creek, Element 47 restaurant in Aspen, Four Seasons Hotel Denver, Four Seasons Resort and Residences Vail, Hotel Jerome in Aspen, Mirabelle restaurant in Beaver Creek, Park Hyatt Beaver Creek, The Ritz-Carlton’s hotel and spa in Denver, The Spa at Four Seasons Vail, St. Julien Hotel & Spa and The St. Regis Aspen.
Forbes also “recommends” places that don’t receive stars. In Colorado this year, those include Edge Restaurant & Bar in Denver, Gateway Canyons Resort in Grand Junction, Gravity Haus Vail, The Inn at Lost Creek in Telluride, Jill’s Restaurant in Boulder, The Ritz-Carlton Bachelor Gulch and WYLD restaurant within it.
