Forecasters have warned that more snow will fall this month, with a -5C deep freeze set to hit parts of the UK in a matter of days.

In their long range forecast from January 23 onward, the Met Office has said: “A more unsettled regime is most likely during late January and into early February with spells of wet and windy weather followed by brighter but showery interludes.

“Overall temperatures are most likely to be near or a little above average though some colder interludes are possible.

“Snow could fall to lower levels at times in any colder interludes but is most likely over higher ground in the north.”

WX Charts have also produced weather modelling maps that support the Met Office’s prediction of more snow, but they reckon it will come before January 23.

The maps show that from Saturday, January 15, to Tuesday, January 18, a front of heavy rain and snow will move across several regions, particularly in the north.

According to WX Charts the most afflicted region will be northern Scotland, where up to three inches could settle on the ground in higher parts.

Inverness and Aberdeen could see an inch, with some of the white stuff also expected to fall in Edinburgh.

WX Charts forecast that throughout this period temperatures in northern Scotland could drop as low as -5C.

They predict that snow will also fall in Northern Ireland as well as northern England, with other regions being bombarded by heavy downpours of rain.

Along with this weather front, WX Charts say temperatures in Belfast and Manchester will drop to -1C on Saturday, January 15.

Fortunately, the mercury won’t be plunging that low for at least a week or two with temperatures today set to be around average for this time of year.

According to the Met Office, England’s South West will be the warmest region today with afternoon highs of 9C forecast there.

Southern-central England will peak at 8C today, with Northern Ireland, most of Scotland and northern England hovering at around 6C or 7C.

Elsewhere, East Anglia will struggle to top 5C this afternoon.
