The Memphis Grizzlies have suspended Ja Morant for a second time after he was seen on video holding what appeared to be a gun.
It’s the second such incident for the young guard, who missed eight games this season after a video surfaced of him holding a gun in a nightclub.
Many former players, fans and analysts have offered advice to Morant over the last few months, and it seems that the NBA community at large wants to help him work on some of the issues he’s dealing with.
NBA champion and legendary perimeter defender Tony Allen is one of those players, and he says he’s attempted to reach out to Morant to offer some advice of his own.
“I’ll definitely tell him the guns are not one of those things you play with,” Allen said on former Boston Celtics teammate Kevin Garnett’s show, KG Certified.
“I just think if he got that fear of holding a gun, he should be in much need of security.”
Allen says he’s been in contact with Ja’s father, Tee Morant, who is usually present at Grizzlies games around the league in support of his son.
“I reach out to his dad every day,” Allen said. “I tell him, ‘Hey man, I’m in y’all corner. I’m around. I’m here if you need me.’ I been through some of everything of what he’s trying to portray. It can get rough.”
“A lot of people just ain’t giving him the right guidance to tell him about himself, that’s all,” Allen noted.
“I think this summer is going to be a big summer for him to mature up.”
