Lynette Romero, whose recent departure from KTLA was followed by the firing of co-anchor Mark Mester, will join KNBC on its weekday morning newscast starting Monday, Oct. 10.
Romero had been at KTLA for 24 years, most recently as weekend news co-anchor with Mester. The station announced her departure on Wednesday, Sept. 14, prompting Mester to criticize how it had been handled on the air Saturday, Sept. 17.
Mester was fired on Thursday, Sept. 22.
Romero and KTLA had made clear she left of her own choice. Her destination was revealed Tuesday, Sept. 27 when she and KNBC announced she would be joining the crew that hosts the news from 4 a.m. to 7 a.m. Monday through Friday.
“I have a new family; I have a new home,” Romero said in a video KNBC shared with viewers. “I’m going to ‘Today in LA’ at NBC4 and I’m so excited. So come with me, let me open the door and welcome you in. I can’t wait to get started.”
Renee Washington, KNBC vice president of news, praised Romero as a special kind of journalist.
“Lynette has the right combination of journalistic experience and genuine warmth that comes across on the air and in person,” Washington said. “She is a dynamic anchor with an upbeat approach to help our viewers kick start their day, and I am happy to welcome her to the NBC4 family.”
