The Charlotte Hornets will be without one of their former first-round picks for an uncertain amount of time, according to reports.
Per The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Hornets third-year center Kai Jones will be away from the team indefinitely for “personal reasons” and there’s currently no timetable for his return.
Charania added that Jones will miss training camp and the team remains in constant contact.

Jones made headlines earlier this month when fans grew concerned over an IG Live post where the 22-year-old Bahamian big man was sweating profusely and sounded unintelligible as he addressed offseason trade rumors.
"If I get that call on my phone, I will have my bye, but I don't think that's gonna happen anytime soon."

The former 19th overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft appeared in 46 games for Buzz City last season where he averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 12 minutes of action.
Coming out of Texas, Jones drew comparisons to Grizzlies center Jaren Jackson Jr. due to his explosive athleticism, ability to space the floor and defensive versatility. Unfortunately, fans in Charlotte haven’t been able to see too many flashes of that potential in his 67 games with the team.
Hopefully the time away is able to provide Jones whatever clarity he needs.
