Former UFC, Bellator fighter Cain Carrizosa was arrested.
According to MMA Junkie and St. George News, a former UFC and Bellator fighter Cain Carrizosa (aka Cain Castillo) has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend on two separate occasions.
The arrest was made on Monday in St. George, Utah and he is charged with second-degree aggravated assault (two counts), second-degree robbery, and third-degree domestic violence in the presence of a child.
MMA Junkie reported the details of the incidents:
“On Jan. 1, police say they responded to a call around 4 a.m. after the woman’s parents heard a rowdy argument and what they said sounded like a strike hitting flesh. Upon arrival, police placed both Carrizosa and the woman in custody because the woman initially fled the scene.
According to police, the woman displayed signs of damage on her face, passed out, and intermittently convulsed as an ambulance transported her to a hospital.
Police say Carrizosa told arresting officers he planned on leaving and never coming back once released from custody. Around that point, they connected him to a previous incident from March 24, 2022, that involved the same woman.”
Cain Carrizosa allegedly assaulted the same woman twice
The March incident alleges that Carrizosa “punched the woman in the back of her head, knocked her into the road and dragged her to a sidewalk, where he left her unconscious, and she later experienced seizures.” He also stole her phone.
He is being held without bail.
“Given the seriousness of his crimes, his connections, and his stated desire to flee the state it is reasonable to conclude that he poses a significant flight risk,” gephardtdaily.com reported.
This marks yet another dark moment in MMA history, in just January alone. On NYE UFC president Dana White was captured on video slapping his wife, and just days later former UFC fighter Phil Baroni was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend.
Though Carrizosa lost both of his UFC appearances (Chris Wade and Leonardo Mafra) he was successful outside of the Octagon holding wins in Bellator, Tachi Palace Fights and CFFC. He fought as recently as January 2022, but he lost that bout.
