Former UNC star Caleb Love announces Big Ten transfer destination

On Friday, former North Carolina Tar Heels guard Caleb Love announced that after entering the portal, he is going to transfer to a huge Big Ten program.

The North Carolina Tar Heels, one year after nearly winning the national championship, were ranked No. 1 in the preseason, and failed to make it into the NCAA Tournament. After their 2022-23 season, guard Caleb Love, a former five-star recruit in the 2020 class, announced that he was entering the transfer portal. Fans wondered and speculated where he would end up, and they finally received their answer.

On Friday, Love announced his decision on Twitter, via a drawing of himself wearing a Michigan Wolverines uniform. In the tweet, Love writes “go rewrite your story kid.”

Caleb Love announces transfer to Michigan

This was a huge win for Michigan, as Love was believed to be considering transferring to Missouri, as he is a St. Louis-native (via ESPN). Ultimately, he chose to be a Wolverine, and it could not have come at a better time for the program. This comes as Michigan watched Hunter Dickinson enter the transfer portal.

Much like the Tar Heels, the Wolverines had a season to forget. After making it to the Sweet 16 last year, Michigan failed to make it to the Big Dance, finishing the regular-season with a 17-15 record. They did make it into the NIT, but were eliminated in the second round by the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Now the Wolverines get Love, who was the Tar Heels’ best scorer on the team. Through 33 games (32 starts), Love averaged 16.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.8 assists, while recording a 37.8 field goal percentage and a 29.9 three-point percentage.

After spending his first three years at Chapel Hill, Love will now be heading to Ann Arbor to help lead the Wolverines to their second national championship.
