BMW has taken this one step further, by introducing new technology which could enable drivers to experience a cinema from the comfort of their seats. While it may still take a few years for drivers to see roads full of self-driving cars, some of these innovative features may be around the corner.
Colour changing car
The BMW iX E Ink is able to change colours thanks to a specially developed body wrap that is tailored precisely to the contours of the all-electric Sports Activity Vehicle from BMW.
When stimulated by electrical signals, the electrophoretic technology brings different colour pigments to the surface, causing the body skin to take on the desired colouration.
Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, said: “The BMW iX Flow is an advanced research and design project and a great example of the forward thinking that BMW is known for.”

Dash cam
Having a built-in dash cam is a wish for more than a quarter of people British drivers.
The BMW Drive Recorder films your surroundings for up to 40 seconds and allows motorists to document dangerous driving situations in road traffic.
It can also be used to collect memories of particular routes at the press of a button, with four integrated cameras making it easier to shoot videos.
Cinema screen
For one in 10 people, the idea of being able to watch films in the car with the same quality of going to the cinema was a dream.
BMW’s Theatre Mode could make this a possibility, allowing passengers to watch movies as lavishly as in the cinema.
As soon as the display folds down, blinds automatically cover the rear window, the lights dim and a sound sequence specially composed by Hans Zimmer introduces the upcoming experience.
