LUCKNOW In a close shave, four people got trapped inside a lift for about 20 minutes due to a power failure. The harrowing incident took place at Lucknow Development Authority’s Smriti Apartment in the Jankipuram area on Monday.
“People hopped inside the lift on the second floor but it suddenly got stuck on the third floor for 20 minutes. They were rescued by opening the lift gates with manpower,” said Vikash Singh, a member of the resident association of the 18-floor building.
The residents said that the lift was stopped due to a lack of power backup in the building and faulty equipment being used by the builders which often stops, causing inconvenience for residents. Incidentally, LDA is still responsible for maintaining the building as it has not formed a resident welfare association yet.
Before this incident, residents have written several letters to concerned officials highlighting the poor upkeep of the building. However, nothing has been done as yet,” said Singh while adding that a letter was even written to divisional commissioner Roshan Jacob on December 27, 2022, on the occasion of ‘Nagrik Suvidha Diwas’. The letter touched upon issues like lack of proper fire safety equipment, back-up, and floor management but to no avail.
