An arty party in Cherry Creek

The fight against beerflation
Begins Friday. Inflation got you down? River North Brewery is doing its part to fight back with $5 beers through the summer. And if $5 seems like a lot, you haven’t had a craft beer in a while. The brewery will kick off its “malt-fueled anti-inflation initiative” this weekend with the release of a new session IPA and a lemon-pomegranate shanty at both of its Denver taprooms. Those two, along with RiNo Constant lager, will all be $5.
If you’re in the mood for beers for the Fourth of July, check out the watermelon-based beers at Strange Craft Beer Co., Mockery Brewing and Goldspot Brewing, all in Denver, along with Six Capital Brewing in Aurora and Locavore Beer Works in Littleton. Greeley’s WeldWerks Brewing is also offering Rocket’s Red Glare, a sour ale brewed with rocket pops popsicles and blue raspberry snow cone syrup.

Fan Expo Denver’s glitzy debut
Friday-Sunday. Despite holding a modest tryout last fall, this weekend’s Fan Expo Denver, formerly Denver Pop Culture Con (and, before that, Denver Comic Con) is the first full foray under the new name, having been bought by the Fan Expo company in 2021.
The corporate backing is immediately obvious in the celebrity bookings at the Friday, July 1-Sunday, July 3 event at the Colorado Convention Center: a full “Lord of the Rings” hobbit cast reunion (led by Elijah Wood and Sean Astin); various Star Wars and Disney+ streaming luminaries (Anthony Daniels, Ming-Na Wen); top-tier voice actors (Troy Baker, Billy West, Patricia Summerset); comics-mainstays Jay and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes); a “Clerks” reunion; the “Cobra Kai” leads; and many more.
The core, fortunately, remains with nonprofit educational programming from Pop Culture Classroom, and an emphasis on comics artists, writers, tabletop gaming, cosplay, anime and more. 3-day passes and VIP passes are sold out, but single-day tickets are $47-$67, with child passes (ages 6-12) at $12 per day. Daily youth passes for ages 13-17 are sold out for Saturday and Sunday. 700 14th St. See more at fanexpohq.com/fanexpodenver. — John Wenzel
