France is changing its entry requirements for travellers outside of the EU including the UK for winter due to concerns over the Omicron variant

France is joining the list of countries tightening up entry rules as a result of the Omicron variant, with new rules in place for any arrivals from outside of the EU – and that will include arrivals from the UK.

Brits heading on France holidays will now be required to show proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR or antigen test taken within 48 hours before travel, regardless of their vaccination status.

The UK is currently on France’s amber list meaning only fully vaccinated travellers can visit without needing an essential reason, and without needing to self-isolate. Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated won’t be allowed to enter for non-essential reasons.

If you’re not fully vaccinated, you won’t be able to visit unless you have an essential reason and you’ll need to meet other requirements such as having a negative PCR test taken within 24 hours of departure.

All travellers are also required to sign a sworn declaration form.

The new Covid test. requirements due to Omicron are expected to come into force from Saturday (December 4), reports the Independent.

The news comes just as the peak season for ski holidays is set to start. The new Covid test requirements aren’t the only new rules that will affect those planning to hit the slopes.

The French government previously announced that from 15 December anyone 65 or over who have been fully vaccinated for more than six months and five weeks will need an approved booster jab to be able to use the ‘pass sanitaire’.

This will also apply to those aged 18-64 from January 15, 2022, for those who have been fully vaccinated for more than seven months. This also applies to tourists.

Meanwhile, there are ongoing rules such as face masks are mandatory in all enclosed public spaces. As for outdoors, it’s mandatory in certain regions of France – check the rules for the department where you’re heading.
