The Test will be a record-breaking one for Steyn, who, should he take to the field, will become the first Springbok to play for over 15 years.

Steyn, now 34, will make his 73rd Springbok appearance since making his debut against Ireland on 11 November, 2006 – exactly 15 years ago TODAY!

In that time, Steyn has scored 144 points for his country thanks to 11 tries, seven conversions, 22 penalties and three drop goals.

Of his 72 Tests to date, Steyn has started 40 and come off the bench in the other 32.

He has emerged victorious on 55 occasions, lost 15 and drawn twice for a 76% win rate.

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber praised Steyn, who showed that he still has what it takes to be a star at the highest level by being named man of the match against Wales last weekend after coming off the bench to replace Damian Willemse.

“Playing international rugby for 15 years is an extraordinary achievement and what makes this feat even more remarkable is that Frans continues to show his class despite being in the twilight of his career,” said Nienaber.

“His influence is equally valuable off the field and it is fantastic to have a player of his calibre guide the young players in the squad.”

Frans Steyn’s former Cheetahs and Springbok team-mate Bevin Fortuin took to social media on Wednesday to post a picture of the pair at their very first training session 15 years ago.

So young!
