Denver’s recreation centers will offer 100,000 free KN95 and surgical masks to residents as part of the state’s efforts to get more people to wear high-quality face coverings.
The masks are now available at 29 of the city’s 30 recreation centers. (The La Alma location has been closed since Jan. 14.)
Each resident can take up to five masks, while supplies last. For a full list of locations offering the free KN95 and surgical masks around the state, visit covid19.colorado.gov/freemasks.
Contrary to the state’s announcement last week, libraries and fire stations won’t offer masks in Denver. The Denver Public Library and some other locations on the initial list put out statements saying they didn’t have any masks to give out, and were later removed.
N95 masks offer the highest level of protection, followed by KN95s, surgical masks and cloth masks. Any face covering offers some protection and is better than nothing, though.
