Freedom Fairies host school holiday fun

Pack your fairy dust and your magic wand to help Perth’s Freedom Fairies celebrate 10 years of magical moments these school holidays.

Until July 17, children can visit 13 magical locations across Perth for free fairy-themed activities.

Fairy Queen Cherish said it was “mind-blowingly amazing” to be celebrating a decade of the Freedom Fairies.

Your local paper, whenever you want it.

“So we thought what better way to celebrate 10 years than with a trail showing children all the different realms of Fairy Land,” Queen Cherish said.

“We’ve got space fairies, mermaids, scientists and all sorts, plus you get a stamp at each trail spot you visit.

“This trail is so much more than just school holiday entertainment — for us it’s all about creating a space where kids can feel safe, express themselves and develop their confidence.”

Starting out 10 years ago as a busker and face painter in Fremantle’s Esplanade Park, Fairy Queen Cherish said Freedom Fairies had grown to being home to about 45 fairies.

She said her original vision of connecting community through creativity had always been the underlying meaning of the Freedom Fairies.

“Back then there was just nothing like Freedom Fairies,” she said.

“It’s all about the freedom of self-expression and creating moments of magic through presence and place.

“If you can really own who you are as a person, then you can truly express your authenticity — whatever that is.

“The Freedom Fairies are here to create some joy — so come on down and enjoy the fun.”

The Fairytale Trail is free thanks to sponsorship from Hawaiian Shopping Centres, Primewest, Lendlease and the City of Kwinana.

Families who visit at least three locations will receive a $25 Freedom Fairies party voucher.
