The 22-time Grand Slam winner and two-time French Open champion Djokovic booked his semifinal spot via a victory over Russia’s Karen Kachanov in the quarter-finals on Tuesday (June 6).
The Serb was out of sorts for most part of the match, but came from behind to beat the Russian 4-6, 7-6(0), 6-2, and 6-4 in the quarter-finals match that lasted for three hours and 38 minutes to reach his 12th Roland Garros semifinal.
The top seed Alcaraz, on the other hand, progressed to the quarterfinal after a straight sets win over fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Spaniard overcame the Greek 6-2, 6-1, 7-6 (5) in the quarterfinals match that lasted for 2 hours and 12 minutes.
Djokovic will now have a chance of getting closer to surpassing Rafael Nadal’s record for most grand slam titles, but standing in his way and the final is Nadal’s compatriot Alcaraz in the semifinal.
