It’s not been an easy few weeks for Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the former Gunners captain has now suffered another major blow.

The Gabon international may have been looking forward to getting away for the Africa Cup of Nations having been frozen out of Mikel Arteta’s first-team squad, stripped of the club’s captaincy and made to train alone.

But his build-up to the AFCON has suffered a blow after he tested positive for Covid following a trip to Dubai with teammates.

It comes with one Arsenal transfer target having spoken about potentially moving to the Emirates.

How Henry went back on pledge

When Thierry Henry moved to New York Red bulls in 2010, he said he’d never return to play in Europe again.

But, in Henry’s own words, “when the team you love and support asks you back, it’s kind of hard to say ‘no’.”

And so in 2012 when Arsene Wenger picked up the phone and asked for Henry to make a January return to help out his former club, there was only ever going to be one answer.

Aubameyang blow

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations have suffered a huge blow after the Gabon international tested positive for Covid upon his arrival in Cameroon.

Aubameyang had been set to captain his country throughout the whole tournament, despite being dramatically stripped of the Arsenal captaincy following a disciplinary breach last month, but could now miss some of his country’s games.

The forward tested positive alongside former Southampton and Fulham midfielder Mario Lemina and both now appear certain to miss their AFCON opener against Comoros on Monday, January 10.

Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has opened up about discussions his agent held with Arsenal.

Reports have suggested the Gunners are monitoring the Brazilian, who has been capped by his national team three times.

And Arsenal fans could have reason to get excited about the midfielder potentially signing for Mikel Arteta’s side following his declaration that he has “never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League “.
