The Oxley: classic British/English pub. You’d think you were tucked snugly in the City/West End/Zone 1 in London. British beers, amazing Victorian atmosphere and fantastically on-point traditional but playful pub fare. Located in posh Yorkville neighbourhood.
The Queen & Beaver: similar in atmosphere and beer selection to the above, yet somehow feels a bit less stuffy, maybe like you’ve made it to Maida Vale . . . The fare is still definitely pubby, but has been elevated. Located downtown.
The Dog & Bear: still British/English in spirit and atmosphere, but now skews a bit more Canadian and slightly divey, like a sports bar. The food is more like Canadian bar food, but is done well. Great beer selection. Located on Queen Street West in a pretty hip neighbourhood and gets dancey with a DJ on Friday and Saturday nights after 10-11pm.
Elephant & Castle: British/English pub with great beer selection, classic atmosphere and very good food. Located in the entertainment district, closer to the financial district.
Hemingway’s: New Zealand pub with a great atmosphere. Food isn’t anything special. Beer selection and crowd are always great. Again, in Yorkville, but doesn’t feel too posh, very approachable and interesting, wide-ranging clientele.
