‘Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile’ Trailer Reveals a Video Game Adaptation of Iconic Anime and Manga

‘Fullmetal Alchemist Mobile’ Trailer Reveals a Video Game Adaptation of Iconic Anime and Manga

Square Enix’s long-awaited mobile game celebration for the 20th anniversary of Fullmetal Alchemist is officially set to launch in Japan this upcoming summer. There has been no word as to when the game might arrive in the west. Still, the company has provided a trailer filled to the brim with nostalgia and smooth action-packed scenes.

Not too much is known about the game as far as what to expect exactly, but thanks to Gematsu’s translation of the official text from Square Enix, the game is expected to include the original story and battle scenes in “high-quality 3D CG” and the world in which it takes place will be “reproduced in excruciating detail.” It will also have a voice cast and fast-paced alchemy battles.

The mobile game is based on the popular dark fantasy classic manga series, Fullmetal Alchemist, by mangaka Hiromu Arakawa. It follows the story of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, who fall victim to a horrible alchemy experiment gone wrong, all in the pursuit of bringing their dead mother back to life. The result of the human transmutation experiment backfires and causes Edward to lose his left leg, and Alphonse to lose everything but his soul – which eventually binds to a suit of armor thanks to Edward. The two set out on a journey to find the philosopher’s stone, the solution to their problems, and encounter much more than they expected along the way.

The manga garnered high critical acclaim and received an anime adaptation in 2003 which spawned a “sequel,” as well as a more faithful manga adaptation, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood in 2009. FMA has also branched out into other forms of media, such as movies, light novels, audio dramas, and more over the years. It also isn’t a stranger to video games but hasn’t achieved large success in that genre as of yet. Perhaps this mobile game is what is needed to give it a well-deserved chance in the gaming world.

Fullmetal Alchemist will be available for iOS and Android upon release. The trailer for the game can be found below:
