Tyson Fury sent Deontay Wilder a stern message on the anniversary of their third fight. The Gypsy King started off by commending the Bronze Bomber for being a ‘worthy opponent’ and wished him luck for his October 15 return against Robert Helenius, however, Fury closed it off with an honest reminder.
In a video posted to social media, he said: “Hi guys, it’s my anniversary of knocking Wilder out for the third time. A year today we were involved in a very very epic battle in one of the greatest heavyweight trilogies in the history of boxing.
“Although Wilder came up short three times he was still a worthy opponent, he fights next week, I wish him luck, I’m sending positivity, which is something he couldn’t do for me, hence the reason he lost three times because what goes around comes around, remember that.”
The Mancunian is referring to the way in which Wilder conducted himself during their trilogy. After being knocked out in their second fight, Wilder listed off a litany of excuses as to why he had come up short.
He added: “I just said well done and he said, ‘I don’t want to show any sportsmanship or respect.’ I said, ‘No problem.’ Very surprised. Sore loser, an idiot.
“To be a top fighting man, you’ve got to show guts and respect, and he couldn’t do it tonight, and that was it.”
Wilder has since come out to state his willingness to have a fourth fight with Fury. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, he said: “I think that there’s definitely a chance of a fourth fight again. Boxing is a business. Many people call it a sport but it’s not a sport.
“The heavyweight division is very small. I’m still a big fish in the business, especially here in America. As long as we’re all in the same division and all still currently fighting, why not? It only can lead to that. With all that being said, it’s definitely a possibility.”
