Tyson Fury has confirmed that he will pay Piers Morgan £1million in pound coins after making a bet with the television host that he will never fight again. However, six months after announcing his retirement from professional boxing following his victory over Dillian Whyte, The Gypsy King is back.
He faces Derek Chisora for a third time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on December 3. The pair previously fought each other in 2011 and 2014 with Fury winning on both occasions.
Providing all goes well against Chisora, the WBC champion is expected to face Oleksandr Usyk in the first undisputed heavyweight unification clash of the four-belt era in February. Just before the Fury vs Chisora III launch press conference, talkSPORT’s Simon Jordan brought up the Mancunian’s bet with Morgan during a special edition of the talkSPORT boxing show.
“So, you’ve only got to find another £990,000 to pay the bet that you have with that little ratbag Piers Morgan,” said Jordan.
Fury’s update comes after an appearance on Piers Morgan’s uncensored earlier this year. When asked if he could be tempted out of retirement by a big fight against the winner of Usyk and Anthony Joshua, Fury replied: “No, you know, I don’t care who wins the fight. I wish them both all the luck in the world.
“I told you I was done seven weeks ago. And then there’s some talk me having some exhibition fights, but to be honest with you, I can’t see that coming off either. I’ve got no interest in fighting anymore… enough is enough for me.
“I put a ridiculous number on today. I said I’ll come back for half a billy, half a billion pounds. That’s £500million. If that’s not ridiculous… I don’t know what is! When that number is on the table, I would definitely look at it. Half a billy is half a billy.”
At this point, Morgan laid a bet on the table: “How about if you do fight again, you give me a million pounds?”
Tyson replied to this: “If I am getting half a billion for my fight it won’t matter will it. Yep, 100 per cent!”
