Fury vs Joshua has final issue holding up blockbuster showdown

Anthony Joshua has accepted all of Tyson Fury’s terms for an all-British showdown between the pair. However, the broadcaster rights are yet to be confirmed. With both men tied into television deals with opposing broadcasters, negotiations may be slowed as the issue is resolved.

Joshua is currently signed into a lucrative long-term deal with streaming platform DAZN, while Fury’s promotional outfit, Queensbury Promotions, has a contract with BT Sport. Both broadcasters will be keen to obtain exclusive rights to the event yet there is the option of a joint-broadcasting deal.

Fury has stated that he’s happy for the fight to be a BT/DAZN PPV. While Eddie Hearn has said that he’s already had conversations with Frank Warren’s son George Warren about the possibility. There is no guarantee this can be completed, although early conversations are promising.

A fight between the pair came about when Fury offered Joshua a shot at his WBC title following the news that Oleksandr Usyk would not be able to face The Gypsy King in their proposed undisputed showdown until next year.

“You’re coming off a twelve-round fight, so you’re match-fit, you’re ready and I’m giving you a few months’ notice. If you’re interested, I’ll send you the date over and we can rumble. A battle of Britain for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world. Let me know if you’re interested if not I will select another opponent. Thank you very much and goodnight.”

Both men are now expected to square off on December 3 at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The contract states that Fury will receive a 60/40 split of the overall purse with a rematch clause inserted into the deal.
