Fury vs Usyk update delivered by Arum as promoter details talks

Tyson Fury’s US promoter Bob Arum has revealed that he intends to meet with Oleksandr Usyk and his representatives this Thursday to talk about the long-awaited undisputed heavyweight clash. The pair had been in talks to stage the four-belt shoot-out in December. However, The Cat ruled himself out of competition until early 2023 as he returned home to spend time with his family in war-torn Ukraine.

As a result, Fury approached Anthony Joshua for a fight on December 3 but will instead square off against Derek Chisora for the third time on the same date after negotiations broke down at the eleventh hour. Providing all goes well against Del Boy, Frank Warren recently disclosed that they will aim to get the Usyk fight scheduled for February 2023.

Those preliminary conversations will begin next week as Arum – who is promoting Usyk’s close friend Vasiliy Lomachenko’s next fight- is expected to meet with the unified heavyweight champion ahead of Loma’s clash with Jamaine Ortiz on October 29.

“Oleksandr Usyk I look at as a very good friend because he is the best friend of Vasiliy Lomachenko. They’re very close, went to the same Olympic Games, and they share a manager in Egis Klimas who’s a very good friend of ours and coincidentally we [Top Rank] will be promoting Vasiliy’s next fight on October 29 from Madison Square Garden,” Arum told Sky Sports.

He continued: “We’re not signing for anything until the Chisora fight is over. I don’t count my chickens before they’re hatched. I’ll wait for that fight to be over.”

But did add: “I’m confident that between Frank Warren and myself we’ll be getting it over the line.”
