Tommy Fury’s father John claims that his son will continue down the influencer boxing route following his proposed rematch with Jake Paul. Fury Sr is keen for Tommy to earn as much dough as possible and has teased money-spinning contests with KSI and Salt Papi next.
Fury and Paul are set to run back their Saudi showdown later this year after the Brit’s split decision victory last month. TNT, who is 9-0 as a pro, had initially gone down the conventional boxing route and cut his teeth fighting journeymen and up-and-coming prospects.
But after earning a career-best payday against the YouTube star reportedly in the region of £2.5million, his dad and coach John says that they will follow the money and continue fighting influencers after the conclusion of the second fight with Paul.
Speaking to Express Sport via Free Bets, he said: “I think at this moment in time conventional boxing will have to go on the backburner because boxing is a business, and you have to go where the money is. Whoever is a big name, who brings stuff to the table we’re interested in.
“Yep, we’re interested in KSI, he can have it next if he wants. We’re interested in the Salt Papi’s of the world, everybody with a name who thinks they can have a go, can have a go. Even with conventional boxing. If they want to pay the same sort of money as these guys are paying, we’ll do the conventional boxing as well, but, after where we’ve been you can’t really box at York Hall, can you?”
KSI has been in negotiations with Paul for the last year but recently stated his intention to fight his conqueror instead. Taking to Twitter, he wrote: “At this point, after I beat a pro boxer on May 13th, I’m gonna go straight for Tommy Fury. Jake Paul is being long with negotiations.”
Meanwhile, Papi has also called out Fury and claims he is the only content creator that can beat the ex-Love Island star. Fury Sr has only watched a few highlights of the Filipino puncher but is impressed by what he has seen.
“I think that Salt Papi is quite good. I’ve only seen bits of him, but he brings a lot to the table,” he added. “So, if he wants it call me. If KSI wants it call me. Whoever wants it, call me. As long as the money is right and it makes business sense we are there.”
