Iglesias made history earlier this year when he became the first stand-up comic to ever perform at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. He did two shows, both of which were filmed for the special during the Netflix is a Joke: The Festival in May.
Before the shows were announced to the public, Iglesias said he told a few people within his inner circle about the gig, but no one believed him.
“They were like ‘Oh, so you’re gonna sing the national anthem or throw out the first pitch or something?’” Iglesias told us during an interview ahead of the show announcement in April.
“I would say, ‘No, I’m going to be performing.’ And they’d say, ‘Oh, like is there a smaller room? What do you mean performing?’ I get it, it does sound outrageous,” he continued.
But it wasn’t a joke.
Iglesias sold out both shows, during which he shared details about growing up in Southern California and being a huge fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He’s currently out on the road with his massive Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias: Back On Tour jaunt, which returns to the area in 2023 with three shows at Agua Caliente Casino in Rancho Mirage May 4-6.
