Gabriel Luna Is a ‘Lot More Open’ to Returning as Ghost Rider in the MCU

While Gabriel Luna has certainly been keeping himself busy with other big roles in the years since Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ended, he’s still keeping that door open for a potential return to the role of Ghost Rider. On Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Luna played the Robbie Reyes version of the fiery vigilante. At one point, there were plans for him to star in his own spinoff series, but the project was ultimately scrapped before production could begin. Ever since, many fans have been calling for Luna to return as Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Luna himself recently revisited the idea of returning as Robbie Reyes in a new Marvel project. He says how there’s still not a day that goes by where someone doesn’t ask him about Ghost Rider, referring to the ongoing popularity of his incarnation of the character. Luna makes it clear that he’s keeping the door open to revisit that role if he gets the call from Marvel Studios.

“Oh, I love that character. It was really special,” Luna said in a new interview with Forbes. “It feels like the demand may be there and if the creative is there and it makes sense… I think with Marvel right now, it’s so intricately woven that it would be a few years out if they started to think about it, to do the character. I’m always open.”

For years, Luna would typically respond to the question of a potential return as Robbie Reyes with an answer that cast some doubt on coming back. These days, however, Luna says he’s more “open” than ever to reprising that role.

“My stock answer used to be, ‘I loved what we did, I’m very happy with what we accomplished and I can be happy leaving it on the shelf and admiring what we did and have the audience remember it fondly, the way they do. To do the character again just gives me another opportunity to screw it up,’” the actor explains. “So there’s that mindset, but now I feel that I’m a lot more open should it come around. If it makes sense, I’m more than happy to… I try to keep myself in shape, Arnold [Schwarzenegger] demands it. So I’m still certainly physically capable of doing it and if it’s a great story and they’d have me, of course.

Luna mentioning Schwarzenegger refers to the new Netflix series FUBAR, which reunites Luna and the Terminator star. The pair had previously co-starred in the 2019 sequel Terminator: Dark Fate.

Marvel Comics

Time will tell what happens with Ghost Rider, but it seems inevitable that the character will pop up in the future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in one way or another. There have been no official announcements made about when the character could show up, but it always seems possible that he could potentially appear in any MCU-set movie or Disney+ series. In any case, if Marvel wants Robbie Reyes to return, Luna would be quick to answer the call.

Meanwhile, you can catch Luna in FUBAR when the series hits Netflix on May 25.
