‘Gadar was called Gutter,’ REVEALS Ameesha Patel on being underestimated by renowned Bollywood stars for playing the role of a mother

The eagerly awaited Gadar 2 trailer, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, is finally here, generating immense hype since its announcement. The movie takes a 22-year leap, with the actors reprising their beloved roles as Tara Singh and Sakina. During the trailer launch of Gadar 2, Ameesha Patel opens up about how some of Bollywood’s renowned insiders underestimated her saying she wouldn’t be able to portray the character of a mother.

As the show takes a 22 year leap, Ameesha Patel is now shown older as Sakina. Her son on-screen son Utkarsh Sharma aka Charanjeet is also grown up. The actress opened up about alot of well-known industry insiders believed that she couldn’t play the role of a mother.

Ameesha spills the beans on playing mother

She shared, “I am extremely grateful to the fabulous and best co-star of my life Sunny Deol. When I heard the script of Gadar 1 and came on board, a lot of well-known people thought that I won’t be able to do justice to the role of a mother. Whether I did a film with Salman, Ajay or Hrithik, I had played a college student in all of them. So when this subject was narrated to me and Kaho Na Pyaar Hai was not released, everyone told me that I won’t be able to play a mother.”

Talking about her preparation of the role, Ameesha said, “I love challenges rather than rejection. And I wanted to take up this opportunity despite being out of my comfort zone. And I had faith because I knew my director was brilliant. It was such a beautiful love story that no one can ever write or make it. So I had to say yes. It was difficult, but Anil Sharma focused on every aspect of the character with me for 6 months.”

She further opened up about the criticism she faced. Ameesha expressed “And logo ne gadar ko release se pehle gutter kaha tha. (Before the release of Gadar, people called it Gutter) I was deeply hurt by it. People even raised questions when news of gadar 2 came out. They were like how can a girl doing lazy lamhe on Instagram will play this character? How does she play a mother of 20-year-old boy? And so it was like facing the challenges again but taking it up and going it.”

Ameesha talks about her co-star Utkarsh

In the trailer we saw that Ameesha Patel looks like a doting mother to her on-screen son Utkarsh Sharma. She also narrated a hilarious incident revealing that she was offered a movie with him.

Narrating the incident, Ameesha said, “A picture had come to my manager and I was said that a producer wants to cast me with him. I was observing the image for 10 minutes and later confirmed his name was Utkarsh Sharma. After knowing I reacted ‘ye tho mera beta hai’ (He is my son). We had the same of tuning on set and we stayed like friends on set.”

Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on 11 August 2023. In addition, the movie will be clashing with the Akshay Kumar starrer OMG 2.
