Gal Gadot shared that she feels empowered after Wonder Woman 3 got scrapped earlier this year by James Gunn. The film was one of the first movies to be canceled after the director and Peter Safran took the reins of the DC Universe. In a press event, Gunn mentioned that while the exact nature of her involvement remains uncertain, conversations with Gadot have been positive.
Gadot, whose portrayal of the Amazonian princess won hearts globally, is not one to be ensnared by setbacks. The cancelation of Wonder Woman 3 could have been a moment of despair, but for Gadot, it was an opportunity to break free from the golden lasso and explore new horizons.
During an interview with Total Film magazine, she elaborated on the joy of not being tethered to a single role and having the latitude to venture into new realms. The accomplished actress spoke about the zest that comes with delving into stories she’s passionate about, and the vitality it adds to her life.
Gadot shared:
“To me, starting and developing stories that I’m passionate about is an incredible thing. The fact that I don’t have to sit still at home and just wait for the next offer is something that makes me feel empowered. I enjoy doing it, it keeps me alive.”
Gadot’s New Pursuits Beyond DC Universe
Gadot, known for her indomitable spirit, also touched upon her plans to pursue her own projects, while still being available as an actress-for-hire. This reflects the multi-dimensional aspect of her career, where she desires to wear many hats. Whether it is conceiving new ideas or collaborating with like-minded visionaries, she seems to be poised for the next phase of her journey.
“I’m not only going to do my own projects, I’m going to work as an actress-for-hire still. But the fact that I can go ahead and tell the stories that I’m passionate about – from ideas that I conceived, or from ideas that I find fascinating from people that want to partner with us – it’s an incredible thing.”
Gadot’s comments indicates that she will not play any part of the new DC Universe, but Gunn revealed earlier this year his plans for the DC Universe he’s creating.
“Some. We don’t know. We’ve talked to Gal. She’s up for doing stuff. We’re not sure what we’re going to do with that. All I can tell you really right now really is just Henry [Cavill] and Ben [Affleck] are not a part of this universe.”
Meanwhile, the DC Universe is marching ahead with ambitious plans. While Wonder Woman 3 might not see the light of day, there is an entire slate of movies and projects being developed. Among them are Creature Commandos, whose release date is still under wraps, and Superman: Legacy which is slated to hit the theaters on July 11, 2025.
Gal Gadot’s era as Wonder Woman might have reached a crossroads, but her spirit remains as fierce and relentless as the character she portrayed.
