VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The Galaxy was playing from behind early in its 4-2 road loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday evening and never could make up the difference as its seven-match unbeaten run came to an end.
It was the Galaxy’s first loss since falling to Real Salt Lake, 3-2, in a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal on June 7. The team had gone 3-0-4 since.
Brian White scored the first of the Whitecaps’ three first-half goals with a header in the second minute of the game.
Ryan Gauld put the ball past Galaxy goalkeeper Jonathan Bond twice in the first half, scoring his sixth and seventh goals of the season on an unassisted effort in the 10th minute and via a penalty kick in the 23rd for a 3-0 lead.
The Galaxy (5-7-10, 22 points) rallied after halftime. Gastón Brugman scored off an assist from Riqui Puig in the 61st minute, then Mark Delgado took a pass from Preston Judd in the 74th minute to cut the deficit to one goal.
Sergio Córdova put the game out of reach for the Galaxy with a goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
The Galaxy next host Club León for a Leagues Cup match on July 25 at Dignity Health Sports Park.
