‘Game-changing’ bathroom item removes toilet limescale ‘overnight’

Toilet limescale appears in toilet bowls when hard water evaporates leaving hard, chalky calcium and magnesium behind. Toilet limescale is common but is particularly bad in hard water areas as the water has a higher mineral content. If limescale is really bad, it can lead to slower, weak flushes.

The reason toilet limescale can look so unsightly is that bacteria and other dirt particles can cling to the limescale.

Luckily, one fan of cleaning sensation Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, has shared their go-to product for banishing toilet limescale.

Mrs Hinch has more than 4.6 million followers on Instagram and dedicated fans who share their own cleaning solutions online.

Recently, some of her fans have taken to social media to share their solutions and methods for cleaning certain parts of the home.

On one such group, Facebook user Maria Whitaker posted her go-to product for removing toilet limescale.

She said: “I would just like to share excellent results. People have suggested using Harpic Black to remove limescale from your toilet bowl.

“It does work. It’s even removed it from where the water comes out around the rim hence a better flush too.

“I just squirted it all around and left it overnight and repeated. I’ve ordered some more, so I’ve always got some in.”

Dawn Elliott wrote: “Yes, agree Harpic Black is brilliant on toilets.”

Sharon Knight commented: “Fantastic at removing limescale around taps too.”

Harpic Black can be bought from most supermarkets, online and from some discount stores.

Harpic Power Plus Toilet Cleaner 10x better than Bleach Gel costs £1.95 from Sainsbury’s. Harpic Citrus PowerPlus Toilet Cleaner costs £1.25 from Wilko.

Harpic Power Plus Toilet Cleaner costs £1.75 from Tesco and Harpic Power Plus Max 10 costs £1.19 from Savers.

Some Mrs Hinch fans shared their other solutions for removing toilet limescale.

Anne Jones said: “You can get tablets as well, and leave overnight.”

Sophie Natasha Goodwin replied: “What about Domestos? I used that but I’ve not used Harpic Black.”

Jenny Wootton wrote: “Never worked for me no matter how much I used the stuff, then it was particularly hard.

“Removing the water and a scraper was the only solution. If I could afford it, a professional filter attached to the water inlet is the best solution.”
