The first-ever official fan convention for HBO’s “Game of Thrones” will now take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center on Dec. 9-11, 2022, organizers announced Tuesday.
Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention had been set for Las Vegas in February before being postponed due to the pandemic.
While most of the “Game of Thrones” stars previously announced for the earlier date will still appear in Los Angeles in December, organizers landed another fan favorite with actor Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow, the King in the North, now part of the lineup.
Other actors scheduled to appear include Alfie Allen who played Theon Greyjoy, Jack Gleeson as Joffrey Baratheon, Kristofer Hivju as Tormund Giantsbane, Kristian Nairn who played Hodor, Daniel Portman as Podrick Payne, Gemma Whelan who played Yara Greyjoy, and Isaac Hempstead Wright as Bran Stark.
The first “Game of Thrones” spinoff, the prequel “House of the Dragon,” premieres on HBO on Aug. 21, and a spinoff featuring Harrington as Snow is also in the works. (The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles and HBO just announced a collaborative dragon-themed exhibit at the exhibit to run Aug. 5 to Sept. 7)
Taken with the original series, which ran for eight seasons, the fan convention in December should have plenty of material for the panels, cosplay and trivia competitions, autograph sessions, photo ops, and merch it promises to present.
All of that will be fun, though if you go for just one thing go to see DJ Kristian Nairn’s evening dance party at the convention. That’s right, outside of Westeros, Hodor, the gentle giant and protector of wee Bran Stark is also a Northern Irish house music DJ who has played sets alongside such well-known DJs as Steve Aoki and Fat Boy Slim at festivals and clubs around the known world.
