It’s the era of action-entertainers! Each year, Bollywood witnesses several films in this genre – some work while some just fail to impress but well, looks like we have an interesting addition to the genre with Vikas Bahl’s Ganapath: A Hero Is Born. Starring Tiger Shroff, Kriti Sanon, Amitabh Bachchan and Gauahar Khan, Ganapath is a CGI-heavy futuristic action drama. The film takes us through the journey of Guddu, an ordinary man, who has to become Ganapath, an immortal warrior, to save the voiceless from evil. Ganapath promises a graphics-heavy film with a lot of action sequences and well, several twists and turns.

Watch the trailer while reading Ganapath review:

Ganapath takes us to the future where there is a clear divide between the rich and the poor. While the rich are led by an evil man named Dalini, the poor are desperately waiting for their guru Ganapath (Tiger Shroff) to take them out of their misery after his grandfather Dalapathi (Amitabh Bachchan) promises them that one day, Ganapath will make sure they live a life of equality. Ganapath, unaware of how his people are waiting for him, leads a lavish life as Guddu in the Silver City where the upper-class people reside. But soon, he is thrown out of the Silver City after his boss loses faith on him. When Guddu enters the other side where the underprivileged people live, he meets Jassi (Kriti Sanon) and Shiva (Rahman).

They guide and train him to become stronger than ever to fight for the poor people and make sure the people of Silver City treat them right. However, things take an unexpected turn and Ganapath goes back to the Silver City. How he wins the battle against the riches is what makes the crux of the story. The ending also reveals that it’s not the end for Ganapath. There’s a part II in the making.

Tiger Shroff gives his all as Ganapath. He is probably one of the best action heroes we have in today’s time. His power-packed action scenes are commendable and chemistry with co-star Kriti looks effortless. It’s a treat to watch Kriti Sanon do action like it’s no big deal. She knows her job well and adds an important emotional layer to Ganapath.

Amitabh Bachchan as Ganapath’s grandfather and the narrator of the movie is as impactful as it gets. His voice is empowering and he owns the screen each time he appears. Gauahar Khan as Meera makes her special appearance truly special. She leaves an impact with her emotional scenes even in a short span.

Vikas Bahl nails it with the direction in Ganapath. However, his writing could have been better in terms of exploring the futuristic world a little more. Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti’s cinematography is decent but Ritesh Soni’s editing fails to impress. The VFS is just shoddy. Vishal Mishra and Amit Trivedi’s music is impressive.

High-octane action: The action scenes are near-perfect in Ganapath and there are no two ways about it. And it’s not just Tiger who impresses us with the high-octane action, Kriti matches up and how. She is as good and even better in some scenes. The face-off between Tiger and Kriti is epic.

Kriti & Tiger’s chemistry: There’s just something magical about Tiger and Kriti’s chemistry. Maybe it’s because of their bond which goes way back to their first film Heropanti. In Ganapath, the duo spread the magic of their romance effortlessly.

VFX: In a movie like Ganapath that’s extremely high on VFX, I expected much more in terms of editing. However, it was disappointing to see how not much effort was put into making the CGI-heavy film better.

If you’re looking for a unique action-entertainer that also takes you to the future, then Ganapath is the right watch for you this weekend. Be it Tiger and Kriti’s outstanding action and romance or Amitabh Bachchan’s impactful appearance, everything except the VFX is near-perfect in Ganapath.
