Gavi has told Barcelona boss Xavi he has no intention of leaving the club this summer despite Chelsea’s effort to prise him away from the Camp Nou.
A 18, Gavi is already an integral part of the Barcelona XI but an ongoing contract issue has left his long-term future at the club uncertain.
The former youth team player recently signed a contract extension which required him to be registered in the first-team squad.
La Liga cancelled his registration, however due to Barcelona being unable to comply with the salary cap limits.
As a result, Gavi has remained on his old Juvenil A contract, meaning he could be available on a free transfer this summer.
Chelsea have sought to take advantage of the situation with recent reports suggesting club officials have met with the player and his family to discuss a summer move to Stamford Bridge.
According to SPORT, Barcelona head coach has privately spoken to the young midfielder to reassure him he remains a vital player under him despite the uncertainty, telling him he ‘cannot imagine his midfield without him’
Gavi, in response, has underlined his commitment to the club and while he is eager for the registration issue to be resolved as soon as possible, remains focused on Barcelona.
Despite off-the-field issues, Barcelona director of football Mateu Alemany insisted earlier this month Gavi is going nowhere.
‘Gavi renewed at the time for four seasons and he has three more to go,’ Alemany told DAZN.
‘For sure he’s going to honour his contract. What’s more, we are convinced that not only will he fulfil his contract, he is going to finish his career at Barcelona.
‘That’s what he wants, what our fans want and what we want.’
He added: ‘We have absolute peace of mind. The player renewed, we are going to register him for sure, and for our part there is no problem.’
