George Kambosos Jr is lining up a mega stadium fight in May this year and will be looking to face a high-profile opponent such as Vasyl Lomachenko next.

The Australian star recorded a shock victory last year to dethrone previous lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez in America.

He will now be looking to make a successful first defence of his belts in a division packed with glittering talent.

Kambosos has called for the likes of Haney and Lomachenko who he believes is the correct calibre of opponent to cement his name as the leading fighter in the division.

He told Fox Sports Australia : “I love the Haney fight, and I love the WBC piece. I love the Lomachenko fight. A big name and Tank [Gervonta] Davis as well.

“I want to see him back in the ring first. We’re sitting here negotiating, making sure they’ll come to Australia first. That’s the most important that they’ll travel down. I know for a fact that Haney will and Lomachenko will. So that is a big plus right away.”

Kambosos was sensational in victory last year and now holds all of the belts including the WBC ‘franchise’ belt with Haney holding the ‘regular’ title.

Haney fought JoJo Diaz and secured a vital victory himself to continue his own title charge and has called for Kambosos next.

The Australian star is now confident he has generated the interest to stage a mega-fight in a stadium next.

“It’s going to be in May. May is going to be a great time,” Kambosos continued. “The build-up, the name, there’s going to be the build-up.

“My entire career has been the hard road. There’s never been an easy option for me. I’ve always had to grind,” the 28-year-old said when asked about why he prefers to face tougher opponents.

“We’ve got to really let Australia know what’s going on and how big this fight will be. This will be the biggest fight in Australian history. It’ll be a stadium fight in Sydney or Melbourne. We’re in negotiations with both, and it’ll be very exciting.

“I wouldn’t be real to the crowd if I told them I’m coming back for an easy fight. What for? I’m coming for the big names, and we’re already in negotiations with everybody.”

A rematch between Kambosos and Lopez was initially proposed after the fight but ‘The Takeover’ explained his plans to move up to super-lightweight and challenge Scotsman Josh Taylor.

The Australian star has also had offers made from the Middle East to stage a clash with Haney who is fighting under the Matchroom Boxing banner.

Promoter Eddie Hearn believes the fight would be a great one to stage after hosting the clash between Lopez and Kambosos, ahead of Davis and Lomachenko, who are tied to different promoters.
