Georgetown vs. Villanova prediction and odds for Monday, January 16 (Trust Wildcats at home)

This isn’t what Villanova expected when it transitioned from the retired Jay Wright to Kyle Neptune, starting 8-10 on the year and quickly losing any chance at making the NCAA Tournament.

However, the Wildcats get the ultimate breath of fresh air in a loaded Big East conference in playing Georgetown, who has lost 26 straight regular season conference games dating back to last season. Nova beat the Hoyas by 16 on Jan. 4 and are laying double digits in the rematch, what should we bet?

First, let’s look at the odds:

Georgetown vs. Villanova odds, spread and total

Georgetown vs. Villanova prediction and pick

Both of these teams have been killing bettors wallets, the Wildcats are 6-12 against the spread (ATS) this season and 4-12 when favorites. Meanwhile, Georgetown is 5-13 ATS on the year and 2-8 when catching points.

However, I’m going to go with the home favorite. It may seem daunting to trust this Villanova team that has dropped consecutive games to DePaul and Butler on the road, but this Georgetown team can’t keep pace for 40 minutes. The Hoyas are last in the Big East in effective field goal percentage on offense and defense.

Further, the Wildcats should see plenty of clean looks from 3. Georgetown allows the highest 3-point rate in league play while Villanova takes the most.

However, the Wildcats are shooting 30% in Big East play from beyond the arc, 10th in the conference, but the sloppy Hoyas defense is getting gashed from deep, allowing foes to hit on 42% of their perimeter looks.

There could be some regression for the Hoyas defense, but this has been a poor unit all season, I’d much rather trust the talent of Villanova to get on track and get a home win in convincing fashion.
