Gervonta Davis plane crash: Boxer livestreams shocking aftermath
Gervonta Davis has sparked a new rivalry with George Kambosos claiming he is going to “whoop” him in a warning message sent from his car.
The American star, who is mentored by ring legend Floyd Mayweather, will face Isaac Cruz on Sunday.
Meanwhile Kambosos recorded a shock victory at the weekend to defeat Teofimo Lopez and earn the lightweight belts in devastating fashion.
Davis has now warned him to “hold the belts” and is keen to challenge the Australian, assuming he sees off Cruz this weekend.
“I’m whooping that a**, tell him to come and see me,” Davis told ES News from his car. “Tell him hold the belts because I will whoop his a** for free.”
Kambosos was brilliant in a thrilling victory over Lopez in New York dropping his opponent in an explosive first round.
Despite feeling the pace at the end of the fight where the defending champion rallied to try and recover the scorecards, Kambosos prevailed and will now face several challenges at 135lbs.
Another fight with WBC ‘franchise’ champion Devin Haney seems to be the logical next step providing he can progress beyond a stern test in JoJo Diaz this weekend.
Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is confident that he can make the fight happen next touting a potential showdown in Australia.
“The obvious thing is to fight Devin Haney for all the belts. That’s the fight, but Devin has got to beat Jojo [Diaz Jr] next week,” Hearn told IFL TV.
“You just had a situation there where the underdog [Kambosos] just won, so Devin has got to be switched on.
“I’d love to work with George [Kambosos] and take him [Haney] to Australia. That’s the dream. They come from Australia and beat Teofimo Lopez to win all the belts. It’s unbelievable.”
The lightweight scene is jam-packed, with social media sensation Ryan Garcia also stating his claim to a title shot as he continues to plan his comeback after defeating Luke Campbell.

Davis will face Cruz this weekend and will look to continue to raise his stocks further after two previous explosive stoppage victories over Leo Santa Cruz and Mario Barrios.
He could also use his own title leverage currently holding the WBA ‘regular’ lightweight title which will be on the line this weekend.
The American was set to face Rolly Romero this weekend but he was withdrawn on late notice due to issues outside of the ring.
But ‘Tank’ believes this will have no effect on his preparations and has vowed to take another positive step to becoming the king of the division.
“The change in opponent didn’t affect much in my training,” Davis said. “That’s just the sport of boxing. You have to be ready for anything.
“I always know that I have to adapt to whatever comes my way. Everyone says he’s going to come forward, but that’s easier said than done. If he does, we’ll give the fans an exciting fight.
“We know that’s his game plan. I just have to be smart, do what I do best and put on a perfect performance.”
