Regularly washing bed sheets is effective for keeping them clean but when it comes to brightening, more needs to be done.
With every use, sweat and body oils seep into the fabrics which can leave a grey or yellow hue if they’re not properly cared for.
But while many people swear by bleaching white linens, a TikTok cleaning expert has shared a more gentle method.
Using just two ingredients, baking soda and white vinegar, @brunchwithbabs showed how to restore grey or yellow sheets to their original hue.
She claimed that the results are “brighter” and “whiter” sheets in “no time at all”.

As the evenings get warmer there’s no better time to give white bedding a deep clean, and making a habit of it will pay off in the long run.
Sharing her advice on TikTok, @brunchwithbabs suggested loading up the washing machine with a combination of dirty laundry, white vinegar, and baking soda.
The sheets should go in first, followed by half a cup of baking soda poured into the dispenser drawer.
The next step is to pour half a cup of distilled white vinegar into the automatic fabric conditioner dispenser drawer. This is important to ensure the vinegar gets added towards the end of the cycle.
For people without this automatic compartment, the TikTok user suggested stopping the washing machine before the rinse cycle and adding the vinegar manually instead.
For the deepest clean, @brunchwithbabs recommended using the hottest wash cycle (around 60C).
After setting the wash cycle and allowing it to run, the cleaning expert revealed the final results.
The TikTok star compared the unwashed sheets with the pure white version she had just laundered, and claimed they “smelled so much better”.
It’s not just bedding this simple cleaning hack can be used for either. In fact, it works on towels and white clothing too.
What’s more, the simple laundry method requires no detergent whatsoever, so households can save money when it comes to washing.
