E10 petrol is blended with up to 10 percent renewable ethanol and made up of materials such as low-grade grains, sugars and waste wood, making it greener than existing petrol. Although the fuel has more environmentally friendly properties, many drivers have experienced worse fuel economy since its introduction in September.
The Government stated that E10 petrol can marginally impact fuel economy, generally believed to be around one percent.
It did say, however, this will be almost unnoticeable to most drivers making regular journeys.
Despite this, many drivers have spoken of their fuel economy being reduced by as much as 10 percent.
Twitter user Martin Harvey issued a warning to drivers who use E10 petrol.

“So getting 20 percent less mileage for my money also!
“It’s like having 95 priced at £1.85.”
When the petrol was introduced in September, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps praised the new fuel, saying it would “drive forward the green industrial revolution”.
At the time, the Government and other motoring organisations like the RAC and AA said around 600,000 cars would not be compatible with E10 fuel.
Current RAC Fuel Watch Data reports that the average price of super unleaded is 159.27p per litre, although this price is expected to fall.
This is considerably higher than the 146.97p for a litre of unleaded petrol that drivers can expect to see at the pumps.
Both unleaded and diesel have hit their highest ever prices in recent weeks with the average price of diesel hitting over 150p per litre.
This was described as a “miserable milestone” by the RAC.
