Giancarlo Esposito Joins Universal’s New Monster Film

Award-winning actor Giancarlo Esposito has certainly become one of the most recognizable faces on screen since his beyond-impeccable performance on AMC’s Breaking Bad, and it’s since continued to yield him plenty of opportunities to diversify his incredible acting talent. From compelling cartel dramas on television to video games, he’s proven he can do it all, and now he’s set for a ‘monstrous’ new project on his docket. Per a report from Deadline, Esposito has been officially cast in the next film from Radio Silence and Universal, currently dubbed a “secret monster movie”.

This new monster film will be co-directed by Matt Bettinelli-Oplin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence. Producers include Tripp Vinson, William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, James Vanderbilt, and Chad Villella who most recently worked with Oplin on the two latest very successful installments of the Scream franchise. Writing the script is Stephen Shields, with revisions being done by Guy Busick. Cast for the film so far includes Melissa Barrera, Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, Kevin Durand, Kathryn Newton, Angus Cloud, Will Catlett, and now Giancarlo Esposito. Plot details are tightly under wraps at the moment, without even a brief hint of the premise. With a fleshed out cast and production crew, however, more developments are sure to come over the course of the year.

We do know however that the Untitled Monster Thriller is set to roar into theaters on April 19, 2024.

The delightfully charismatic Giancarlo Esposito is of course known best for his unforgettable role as the chicken-slinging cartel juggernaut Gus Fring in AMC’s benchmark drama series Breaking Bad, which has since become revered as one of the most influential pieces of television, and considered the masterclass in writing and directing. To much fan praise, he reprised the role in the spin-off prequel Better Call Saul, which was also the work of genius creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould. While he plays the stoic-faced Fring on screen who often terrified and fascinated viewers, the actor himself is actually quite the opposite in nature, making for quite a hilarious reveal. He’s since proven himself quite the diverse actor in other features and series, keeping himself plenty busy as one of the industry’s most sought-after low-key actors.

Most recently he can be seen in Netflix’s heist thriller series Kaleidoscope, as well as the widely popular, ongoing superhero series The Boys, and as Moff Gideon in Disney+’s The Mandalorian. He’ll also be lending his voice to the Russo’ Bros big-budget Netflix film The Electric State, along with Francis Ford Coppola’s career project Megalopolis.
