Gigi Hadid has shared a rare photo of her daughter Khai with ex Zayn Malik

Father’s Day can be a tricky time for many reasons, though luckily for Khai Hadid Malik (yep, the daughter of Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik), her parents seem to have kept on amicable terms despite the rumour mill that has been centered around their breakups (and makeups) over the past few years.

Now, we might joke that Father’s Day has essentially become just another date where the internet ups and posts a barrage of photos of themselves and their parent(s), with gushing captions directed at people who often aren’t on the same social platforms to enjoy them, but it’s also a chance to get a candid insight into the lives of our celebrity obsessions.

And so when supermodel Gigi shared a sweet Father’s Day snap of her ex, Zayn Malik, and their daughter, Khai, to her Instagram Story, we, quite frankly, couldn’t get enough.

On June 19 (Father’s Day in the USA), the model posted two Father’s Day tributes, the first, a photo with her dad, Mohamed Hadid, with the message, “Happy Father’s Day to my sweet baba. I love you!’

The second Insta Story, however, was dedicated to “Khai’s baba.” The photo doesn’t show their faces, but there’s no mistaking the tattoos of a man (presumably Zayn), whose hands are seen helping a baby (presumably Khai) draw. Hadid confirmed the identities with the message, “to Khai’s baba.”

FYI, the term ‘baba’ is a familiar word for father in various languages, and is a term of endearment that originates from Persia.

Hadid and Malik dated on and off for about five years, splitting just over a year after welcoming their daughter on September 23, 2020. Malik, who keeps a notoriously low profile and is fiercely private, hasn’t been spotted on Gigi’s stories or social media posts since an incident between Malik and Hadid’s mother, Yolanda Hadid, that reportedly led to their split in October 2021 (a TMZ report claimed that Malik had “struck” the Hadid matriarch, though the former 1D singer released a statement vehemently denying the rumour shortly after).

However, it seems that whatever went on, all is forgiven, or at least put behind them, as Gigi Hadid is clearly keen on keeping things between the pair friendly, and it looks like she still greatly appreciates Zayn as a father to their daughter.

The question remains though, are we likely to peep a look at Khai’s face anytime soon (cute as her toes are)? Well, the short answer is, probably not. Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have opted to keep their daughter’s face off social media to preserve her privacy, and have asked the public, and photographers, to respect those wishes. “We have never intentionally shared our daughters [sic] face on social media,” Hadid wrote in an Instagram Story back in July 2021. “Our wish is that she can choose how to share herself with the world when she comes of age, and that she can live as normal of a childhood as possible, without worrying about a public image that she has not chosen.”

She continued, “It would mean the world to us, as we take our daughter to see and explore NYC, and the world, if you would PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE blur her face out of the images, and if and when she is caught on camera, I know it’s an extra effort, but as a new mom, I just want the best for my baby, as all parents do… and I hope this can continue the conversation to protect minors in the media, even if they come from a public family.”
