Gilas veterans banner Final 12 for Fiba Women’s Asia Cup

MANILA, Philippines—Mainstays Afril Bernardino, Camille Clarin, and Jack Danielle Animam headline the Gilas Pilipinas Women’s final roster for the 2023 Fiba Women’s Asia Cup, which starts next week.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas has unveiled the final 12 for the continental tournament Wednesday.

Duke University standout Vanessa De Jesus, who committed to play for the women’s national basketball team last week, is also part of the final roster alongside fellow AAU player Jhazmin Joson.

Another Gilas Women mainstay Ella Fajardo, who recently moved to IONA University, is also included in the lineup coached by veteran tactician coach Pat Aquino.

Angelica Surada, Janine Pontejos, Ana Alicia Katrina Castillo, Louna Ozar, France Mae Cabinbin and Mika Cacho rounded up the squad that is currently in Melbourne to train for the regional tournament.

The Philippines will begin its Women’s Asia Cup campaign against Australia on Monday, Manila time.

Gilas Women will try their luck in Group B against the likes of Australia, Japan and Chinese Taipei.
