There were also no gates or fences around Lopez’s home, which is about 150 yards from where Sadie Davila was killed in East Baton Rouge Parish at 6:30 p.m. while she was playing.
Arrest documents obtained by The Advocate say the dog “viciously attacked” Davila and that a family member used a walking cane to try to stop the dog to no effect.

Police say she later died from her injuries including multiple dog bites to her face and severe skull damage.
“My baby,” Sadie’s mother, Haley Anselmo, wrote on Facebook. “She is only 7 years old. My mini me. The light in my heart. Words don’t exist for what this feeling is. My family is shattered. Please pray for us. ”
The city’s animal control director told The Advocate that the dog was euthanized the night of the killing.
