Gizmo Reunites With His Creator in Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai Clip

Max has revealed a new clip from a new episode of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai revealing our look at the guest role voiced by Sandra Oh. Episodes 5 and 6 of the animated Gremlins series are now streaming on Max, and Oh’s character, Nuwa, appears in the sixth episode, “Always Bug a God a Drink First.” The clip features Nuwa ordering a drink while interacting Gizmo and the furry Mogwai’s human pals, unimpressed when she learns what they’ve been calling him. The fifth episode, titled “Always Stab or Run,” everyone’s “nerves are tested as Sam, Elle, and Gizmo follow Grandpa’s map through a dark, dangerous forest, while Hon and Fong attempt to escape Greene’s ship at the worst possible time.” Oh’s episode, “Always But a God a Drink First,” picks up with the heroes arriving in a “vibrant and bizarre spirit market, [where they] seek help from Gizmo’s creator, but first they must convince her that humans aren’t all bad.”

In Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, per the official series description, “Viewers] are taken] back to 1920s Shanghai where the Wing family first meets the young Mogwai called Gizmo. Sam Wing accepts the dangerous task to take Gizmo home and embarks on a journey through the Chinese countryside. Sam and Gizmo are joined by a teenage street thief named Elle, and together, they encounter—and sometimes battle—colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. Along their quest, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai Features Several Guest Stars

Sandra Oh is one of several exciting guest stars to be a part of the first season of Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. Other guest stars include Randall Park, George Takei, and Bowen Yang, while Zach Galligan also returns to lend his voice to Billy Peltzer, the protagonist of the two live-action Gremlins movies. The series also features a strong ensemble voice cast which includes Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong, Matthew Rhys, Izaac Wang, and Gabrielle Nevaeh.

The series is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation. Steven Spielberg executive produces alongside Amblin TV Presidents Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, as well as Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios President Sam Register. Tze Chun serves as showrunner and executive producer with Brendan Hay, while Dan Krall is supervising producer. Joe Dante consulted on the series.

The Gremlins franchise was launched in 1984 with the original film, directed by Dante. It was given a live-action sequel, Gremilns 2: The New Batch, in 1959, with Dante back in the director’s chair. There have been efforts made to get a third Gremlins movie off the ground, but the project never made its way out of development hell. However, a future for Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is already guaranteed, as the show was renewed for season 2 ahead of the first season’s premiere.
